چکیده

Classification, nomenclature and identification of the Streptococcus anginosus group (SAG) have been historically problematic and unreliable, mainly due to variability in bacteriological characteristics and clinical presentations. This group was first discovered in 1956 by Guthof, in reference to non-hemolytic streptococcal lassification, nomenclature and identification of the Streptococcus anginosus group (SAG) have been historically problematic and unreliable, mainly due to variability in bacteriological characteristics and clinical presentations.

Streptococcus intermedius, Streptococcus constellatus, and Streptococcus anginosus (the Streptococcus milleri group): association with different body sites and clinical infections.

The associations of Streptococcus intermedius, S. constellatus, and S. anginosus (the three species of the S. milleri group) with clinical infections and sites of isolation were investigated by using a simple biochemical scheme to identify a collection of 153 clinical isolates. S. intermedius was associated with abscesses of the brain and liver, while both S. anginosus and S. constellatus were ...

Phenotypic differentiation of Streptococcus intermedius, Streptococcus constellatus, and Streptococcus anginosus strains within the "Streptococcus milleri group".

A biochemical scheme was developed by which strains of Streptococcus constellatus, Streptococcus intermedius, and Streptococcus anginosus can reliably be distinguished from within the "Streptococcus milleri group." Strains identified as S. intermedius were differentiated by the ability to produce detectable levels of alpha-glucosidase, beta-galactosidase, beta-D-fucosidase, beta-N-acetylgalacto...

Colorectal Cancer Associated with Streptococcus anginosus Bacteremia and Liver Abscesses

Streptococcus anginosus is part of the normal flora of the human gastrointestinal tract. Their ability to cause abscesses is very unique and sets them apart from the rest of the streptococci groups. While an association of group D streptococcus bacteremia and endocarditis with colorectal carcinoma is well established, S. anginosus infections are rarely implicated with colonic malignancy. We pre...

Streptococcus constellatus bacteremia causing septic shock following tooth extraction: a case report

INTRODUCTION Organisms of the Streptococcus milleri group consists of Streptococcus intermedius, Streptococcus constellatus, and Streptococcus anginosus. Though they are commonly associated with abscesses, bacteremia with subsequent septic shock and mortality is infrequent. CASE PRESENTATION We report a case of a 27-year-old Chinese man who presented with Streptococcus constellatus bacteremia...

Streptococcus sinensis may react with Lancefield group F antiserum.

Lancefield group F streptococci have been found almost exclusively as members of the 'Streptococcus milleri' group, although they have been reported very occasionally in some other streptococcal species. Among 302 patients with bacteraemia caused by viridans streptococci over a 6-year period, three cases were caused by Streptococcus sinensis (type strain HKU4T, HKU5 and HKU6). All three patient...
